The term osteoporosis describes a condition in which bones are weak and more likely to fracture. It often brings up images of frail, elderly women, who are hunched over and experiencing bone loss due to the post-menopausal lack of estrogen. While this is an accurate picture of the most common and severe cases of osteoporosis, men, in increasing numbers, are developing both osteopenia, a condition of mild bone loss, and osteoporosis, the more severe form.
